I am using GAUSS 15 and when I get an error, the message is usually something like:
G0113 : Unclosed (
It does not have anything indicating the line number of the error, nor can I see the red alarm besides the faulty line. Do I need to adjust any settings to be able to see it, please?

If you are not seeing the line number of the error reported by GAUSS and not seeing the red stop sign in the margin next to the line number, this is most likely, because you are either: pasting the code in the GAUSS command line, or you are highlighting the code in the editor and selecting "run selected text" from the context menu.
If you run the program file, you should see the line number and the stop sign in the margin on the line of the error.
